For years, Apple has had a huge impact on designers and graphic artists across the globe. The simplicity and sharpness of the Aqua interface in Mac OS X strongly influenced the way new products were being presented and designed. It’s not only the design of products that makes Apple’s products different, it’s also their appearance on the Web and in print.
No other company has managed to come up with such a crisp and brilliant style of presenting its recent designs as a new breakthrough innovation that will change our lives for a long time. Apple has found an extremely effective way to deliver its message to a wide audience, and Apple’s look and feel has played a major role in shaping that way.

In this post, we present a collection of beautiful Apple-inspired Adobe Photoshop tutorials. We collected them not because we are religiously in love with Apple, but because you may find these tutorials useful; for instance, if you are developing a new Mac or iPhone application or designing a concept for a new product. In these cases, you may want to consider Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines and our Designer’s Guide To Icon Design For Mac OS X. Please feel free to suggest further tutorials in the comments to this post.

As a general rule, most Web developers, especially usability enthusiasts, say it is bad practice to use drop-down menus because they are confusing, annoying and oftentimes dysfunctional. From a design standpoint, however, drop-down menus are an excellent feature because they help clean up a busy layout. If structured correctly, drop-down menus can be a great navigation tool, while still being a usable and attractive design feature.
Yes, that’s right: drop-down navigation menus can be user-friendly. Just yesterday Jacob Nielsen the results of his recent drop-down menus study, in which he found out that big, two-dimensional drop-down panels that group navigation options help users to avoid scrolling and can precisely explain the user’s choices with effective use of typography, icons, and tooltips.

In this article we take a closer look at the nature of drop-down navigation menus, analyze situations in which they should or should not be used, discuss various implementations and finally showcase a couple of bad and good examples of such menus. The article also includes various tips and suggestions to help you work with your drop-down menus.

For us here at Abduzeedo, photo manipulation is a true art. When you have liberty to create, you get yourself a real challenge in your hands: to design a cool photo manipulation that others might believe is an actual scene.
When people get such challenge, you get to know who’s actually good, and who’s not. The good ones make you believe what you’re seeing… they make it smooth and you just gotta show it to someone else. And that’s actually why we’re featuring Mariano Villalba today. This guy’s photo manips are totally cool. Some are surreal, some macabre… but everyone sets you in a storyline, ant that’s the idea. For more of his work, visit his profile at DeviantART. You’ll really enjoy it. Hope you like it. Cheers!

Matte painting is a traditional visual effects technique wherein a painted image is combined with film footage to alter, enhance or extend the set, without the cost and effort having to create a physical set. Unlike the travelling matte or back projection technique, where the action occurs in front of a large painted backdrop, matte paintings are applied to the footage after shooting, with the matte image superimposed over the background areas which need to be covered[1]. Traditionally, this was done using glass plates with the scenery painted on; these were placed between the camera and the film footage, and the resulting composite image rephotographed [2]. Currently, the use of physical paint has been superseded by digital images created using a tablet as a drawing device. Matte painting can also be used in combination with a computer-generated 3-D environment, allowing for 3-D camera movement [3].
